Pole dancing is a form of performing arts and it combines three sports into one gymnastics, ballet, and modern dance.  The entire concept involves dancing sensually with a shiny vertical pole and is mainly known for it's use in exotic clubs.  However recently the pole dancing craze has taken the world by storm and women from all walks of life are now getting shape from home with their very own dance poles.

The most standard dance pole is made of up hollow steel or sometimes brass with a circular cross section, that runs vertically from ceiling to floor.  Affixing the pole to the ceiling gives it more stability but this method is not always used especially at exotic night clubs.  The normal diameter of a pole is usually around 5 cm (2inches), which allows a firm comfortable grip with one or two hands.

The home versions are now available almost anywhere and they are mainly used for aerobic exercise.  Common materials include polished stainless steel, powder coating, chromed steel, acrylic "glow poles" with LED light effect, brass and Titanium coated .  Of course each material allows different gripping abilities but the polished steel is one of the favorites because it provides the slickest, fastest and most fluid dance.
